Rajasthani Folk Performance Troupe visits Trinidad

The Indian High Commission continues to promote cultural exchange opportunities for Trinidad and Tobago and has partnered with the Ministry of Arts and Multiculturalism to host the Rajasthani Folk Performance Troupe Shri Ji Brij Mewat Lok Kala Manch Deeg Dance Troupe from May 25- June 4, 2015.

The group led by Shri Jeetendra Parashar, is known for their folk dance and music performances throughout India and other parts of the world. In a visit that coincides with the celebration of Indian Arrival Day in Trinidad and Tobago, the 10 member group will perform devotional acts in the form of plays or ‘Leelas’ as they pay homage to Lord Krishna. The group’s repertoire also showcases indigenous culture from Rajasthan.

Student workshops have been scheduled with the dance cohorts of both the Department of Creative and Festival Arts, UWI, St Augustine and the Academy for Performing Arts, UTT. The general public can look forward to a few live performances across different venues such as the Divali Nagar, Chaguanas, the Centre of Excellence with the main performance offering being held at the Naparima Bowl, San Fernando on Tuesday 26th May, 2015 at 7pm.
